Tamarindo Mangrove Estuary Boat Tour

Costa Rica’s Wildlife, Five Minutes From Town.

Five minutes from Tamarindo’s surf break, the world changes completely. The Tamarindo Estuary is a dense, brackish network of mangrove channels and tidal rivers that form part of Las Baulas Marine National Park — one of Costa Rica’s most important coastal ecosystems and one of the most undervisited natural getaways on the Gold Coast.

On a shaded flat-bottom boat, a knowledgeable local guide navigates the river at a pace that lets you actually see what’s there: howler monkeys crashing through the canopy overhead, American crocodiles motionless on the muddy banks, ctenosaurs draped over the mangrove roots, and a rotating cast of coastal birds — egrets, kingfishers, herons, roseate spoonbills, and more. This tour operates according to the tides — our team coordinates daily departure times 24 hours in advance to ensure the best conditions on the water.
